Our printing methods include etching, stencil, linoleum and other forms of relief printing. These cards are not mass-produced. Most of our printing plates are made by hand. Some of the cards will intentionally have no 2 cards exactly alike (as in the 'Butterflies' and 'Soft Valentines') while others will be similar or identical (as in the 'Udumbara' and 'Snow'). Hybrid printing technologies include creating printing plates digitally but hand-printing from them. There are other manual aspects of our cards including folding, stamping, etc. |

About the materials we use - Ink and paper are archival unless otherwise noted. The inks are oil-based or rubber-based unless otherwise noted. This means that the images on the cards can be seen in their same brightness in 30 years as on the day you bought them. Most of the paper is 'all rag' and 'acid-free,' meaning that it can last through generations. It is not made of tree pulp. We use such materials because they are meant to last. Care should be taken regarding storage and display to allow for long life. Some card edges are 'torn', as is done in fine prints, and some are cut. |

Yama Cards is concerned about waste. In all stages of production and shipping, we try to use the least to produce the best. We recycle avidly. For example, if your order is large, you may find thin strips of the same type of paper your cards are printed on used to buffer your cards instead of non-recyclable 'popcorn'. Cards made by Yama can double as gifts and are suitable for framing. All Holiday cards are non-denominational. All of the envelopes for your cards are made of recycled paper. This has forced us to charge a little - just a little - more than most other card companies. We think it's worth it. All envelopes are white. We do what we can to help the planet but sometimes use products for which there are either no environment-friendly options or those options are prohibitively expensive. Five percent of profits will go to an organization working toward saving tropical rainforests in South America. |
